Why is a tooth extraction necessary?
Extraction is only necessary as a last resort when other restorative treatments have been ruled out; this may be because a tooth is irreparable via fillings, root canals, or crowns, or sometimes because of chronic irreversible periodontal disease.
How long does it take to recuperate after having teeth extracted?
In most instances, residual soreness persists for three to four days. The time required to recover depends on the condition of the adjacent tissue and the efficacy of aftercare. An over-the-counter pain reliever should alleviate any lingering discomfort.
What can I anticipate during my scheduled appointment?
Individual consideration is given to each case, but you can anticipate a thorough explanation of the procedure and any improbable complications. You will be required to execute an authorization form. After obtaining your consent and ensuring that you are aware of what to expect, you will be given a local anaesthetic to numb the area, which is typically administered via tiny injections. After the anaesthetic has taken effect, you will be given time to relax before your dentist verifies that the area is numb. You may feel a little pressure while the tooth is extracted, but no pain.
Can I undergo treatment while sedated?
We are happy to offer the Enjoyable Dentistry Technique, which is appropriate for the majority of our patients. The Enjoyable Dentistry Technique uses sedation in the form of "Happy Air" (70% oxygen, 30% nitrous oxide) – which will leave you feeling warm and comfortable, while we use mental imagery to reduce anxiety.
